Back to school sales offer plenty of good deals for thrifty parents—even for those with kids too young for school. Now is a perfect time for parents to stock up on rainy day art supplies like crayons, glue sticks, paper and rulers.
You can save even more by holding off on your school supply shopping until the Missouri back to school sales tax holiday. This year it will run from midnight Friday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 8. You can save an extra 4.225% because sales tax will not be charged on certain purchases, including clothing, school supplies and computers.
You’ll need to check this list to see if your local town will be joining in on the holiday. Some towns suspend local taxes as well on holiday, while many others do not. According to this list St. Louis, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, and St. Charles WILL NOT charge sales tax either during the holiday. So, you can expect to only pay city tax on your back to school purchases.
Illinois will have a longer sale tax holiday from Aug. 6 to 15th, which will save shoppers from a 5% state tax.
