by Roland TanglaoIt’s time for the summer movie blockbuster season in St. Louis! Grab some popcorn, we’ll meet you at the silver screen.

Big Screen Thrills
Tired of paying to see movies on a screen barely bigger than the one you have at home? Check out theĀ Wehrenberg’s largest screen, the Chesterfield Galaxy’s five story tall Mega screen. For more eye-popping fun, check out the Ronnies IMAX, which boasts a screen twice as large as a regular theater’s. Both gigantic screens have earth shaking sound systems and play the summer’s hottest flicks–often in 3D. Expect to pay a surcharge to see movies on either of these screens, which is well worth it if you want to be completely immersed in your movie experience.

Old School Screen The Belleville Skyview Drive In is the St. Louis metro area’s last remaining drive in theater. The Skyview has two screens and plays double features on each one–every night of the summer! Admission is $9 per adult over 12 and kids under 12 are FREE (limit 2 free kids per adult). The Skyview plays first run movies just like the big guys and tries to book action, adventure, comedies and family friendly films. Come early to get a good spot–the box office open at 7pm on weekend and 8pm Monday through Thursday. Feel free to bring your own food and drink (including alcohol). Many couples and families bring a tailgate picnic supper to occupy their time while waiting for the movie to start.

Deluxe Theater for Date Night The Moolah Theater and Lounge is a twist on standard theaters. It has three bars, leather couches in the theater and a basement bowling alley. The digital screen here is an enormous 40 by 20 feet.

Summer Bargains for Kids Several movie chains are offering special summer movie deals for kids. Generally these movies are kid favorites from last summer and are shown in the mornings when children are fresh and families don’t have to worry about bothering other movie goers. Wehrenberg is offering free kid flicks on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10am, AMC is offering $1 movies at 10am on Tuesdays, and Great Escape (in Fenton and O’Fallon Mo) has a free film for kids every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets are first come first serve, so come early and expect a pint sized crowd.
